What is ASLS?

Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) is a specialized, evidence-based training course. It’s designed to teach early recognition, accurate assessment, and timely management of stroke in both pre hospital and hospital settings.

This course fills a critical knowledge gap by training healthcare providers to identify stroke symptoms quickly—even in non-obvious cases—and initiate immediate care using standardized stroke protocols, helping to improve survival and reduce long-term disability.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

• Recognize the 5 major types of stroke syndromes
• Use the MEND Exam (Miami Emergency Neurologic Deficit) for rapid assessment
• Distinguish between stroke and stroke mimics
• Initiate time-sensitive stroke protocols including “stroke alerts”
• Understand the role of pre hospital notification and stroke team activation
• Facilitate timely administration of thrombolytic or transfer for thrombectomy
• Improve communication and coordination across the stroke care chain
