What is PALS?

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is a specialized course by the NHSF/PHA that equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize and respond to pediatric emergencies involving infants and children.

The PALS course is based on the latest NHSF/PHA Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) and is focused on the systematic approach to pediatric assessment, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics for managing critically ill children.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize respiratory distress and failure in pediatric patients
  • Identify and treat shock and cardiac arrest in children and infants
  • Manage pediatric arrhythmias and post-resuscitation care
  • Apply the Pediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT)
  • Perform effective airway management and CPR for children and infants
  • Use intraosseous access and administer emergency medications
  • Function efficiently within a pediatric resuscitation team

Certification

Participants who successfully complete the course receive an NHSF/PHA PALS Provider eCard, valid for 2 years, and recognized internationally.

Course Duration

  • Initial PALS Provider Course: 12 to 14 hours (typically over 2 days)
  • PALS Renewal Course: 6 to 7 hours (for valid cardholders)
